Repair, Revamp, Restyle Workshop & Fashion Show at BloomfieldRepair Revamp Restyle

North Down Borough Council in conjuction with Bloomfield Shopping Centre are hosting the first Repair Revamp Restyle Workshop and Fashion Show on the 26th May 2010. This event will show you how to save money and prevent waste, by using traditional crafts like knitting, sewing and dressmaking to revamp your clothes.
Why not come along and participate in a workshop (4-7pm): Learn how to revive, embellish, mend and stitch old or unwanted garments and have a go yourself.

The catwalk show (4.30pm & 6.30pm) will demonstrate how previously loved, revamped or nearly new clothes and accessories can be coupled with the latest trends to offer up-to-date, wearable fashion. Local Charity Shops as well as retailers will be exhibiting clothes available in their shops, some of which have already been thrown away by someone!

The ‘Real Nappy’ initiative will be on show with young children showing off how easy it is to be in real nappies. It’s even easier now that there is a Nappy Laundry Service in the Bangor area.

repair-restyle-revamp-imageLucy Smyth (Tailor Maid) 5.15pm & 6.15pm will be demonstrating how easy it is to Re-fit, re-sculpt and re-style your wardrobe transforming forgotten fashions into individually tailored garments, exclusive to you.
If you can’t make it to the event on the 26th May 2010 at Bloomfield Shopping Centre then here are some hints and tips for making the most out of your clothes
Always think about what you need before you go shopping and remember to bring a reusable bag with you.

  • avoid buying one outfit for one occasion - buy classic styles instead that will last and can be accessorised throughout the year
  • look in second-hand shops for unique accessories and clothes and ask shop assistants to look out for interesting items for you
  • check out local fairs and markets – they often have vintage and funky items
  • shop ethically and only buy what you really need
  • look out for recycled clothes, handbags and jewellery

If you can't revamp an outfit, you can still make use of it by passing it on to someone else. For example:

  • take unwanted clothes to local charity shops
  • host a clothes 'swap party' - invite your friends and share your unwanted clothes and accessories
  • really worn items can be taken to your local recycling centre - they will be used to make cloths for industry and car seat stuffing
  • strip worn garments of interesting material, such as ribbons or buttons, in case you can recycle them with another outfit
